2014 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance

As promised last year we made a valiant effort to attend this years' Monterey Car Week otherwise known as holy week to automobile enthusiasts. One of the premier events any first-timer has to attend is the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. This stage plays host to the most exquisite vehicles in the world. The crowd is seduced with polished chrome, perfect paint, untouched leather, and the spectacular views to Stillwater Cove.

Quite simply, this party is stunning. The grounds are immaculate. The architecture is eye catching. The people are beautiful. The food is incredible. And the cars... really folks there isn't an adjective strong enough to convey the restorations on display here. We aren't big pre-war car fans but we found ourselves ogling over a few of them.

Our favorite class is the post-war sports car and this year the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa was the featured marque. We could stare for hours at the sculpted bodywork on these cars. Their designers and engineers were truly craftsmen that understood proportions and speed and mastered the ability to make a car look fast sitting still. How fortunate we feel to stand in the presence of greatness.

It's great to explore the past but Pebble always leaves room for the future. A cordoned off section of the green was set aside for concept cars.
